  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cinnamon stick (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 shot espresso or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • Cinnamon syrup (optional, for drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Blend rice milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and brown sugar until smooth. If using homemade rice milk, strain the mixture through a fine mesh or cheesecloth.
  2. Pour the horchata base into a saucepan and heat gently over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar completely.
  3. Brew your espresso or strong coffee while the horchata is warming.
  4. Pour the warm horchata into a mug, filling about two-thirds of the way. Top with coffee or espresso and stir gently to create swirls.
  5. Garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, a cinnamon stick, and an optional drizzle of cinnamon syrup.

Notes

For an iced version, let the horchata cool in the fridge before mixing with coffee and ice. Adjust sweetness to taste by reducing brown sugar or using a sugar substitute.
