Iced Matcha Mocha Latte

A refreshing fusion of creamy iced mocha and earthy matcha latte, this homemade drink combines vibrant green tea with rich chocolate, poured over ice and topped with milk. Perfect for a pick-me-up or a fun, Instagram-worthy treat any time of year.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder (ceremonial or culinary grade)
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water (not boiling)
  • 12 teaspoons maple syrup or simple syrup (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1 cup cold milk (oat, almond, coconut, dairy, or preferred type)
  • Ice (enough to fill a tall glass 3/4 full)
  • Optional: whipped cream, chocolate shavings, extra matcha powder for topping

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, add matcha powder and cocoa powder.
  2. Pour in hot water and whisk until a smooth, lump-free paste forms.
  3. Stir in maple syrup or your chosen sweetener. Taste and adjust sweetness or chocolate intensity as desired.
  4. Fill a tall glass about 3/4 full with ice.
  5. Pour the matcha-cocoa mixture over the ice.
  6. Top with cold milk, pouring slowly to create a swirl effect.
  7. Stir well with a long spoon, or shake in a jar for extra frothiness.
  8. Add optional toppings like whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of matcha powder.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality matcha and unsweetened cocoa powder. Adjust matcha and cocoa ratios to taste. Oat milk provides extra creaminess, but any milk works. Whisking with hot water prevents clumps. You can batch the matcha-cocoa base ahead and refrigerate for up to 3 days. For a frappé-style drink, blend all ingredients with ice.
