A refreshing and healthy twist on classic lemonade combining tangy lemon juice with activated charcoal for a smooth, invigorating drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 medium-sized fresh lemons (about 1 cup / 240 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice)
  • 1 teaspoon food-grade activated charcoal powder
  • 4 cups (960 ml) cold filtered or spring water
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) sweetener of choice (granulated sugar, honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar)
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Roll the lemons on the counter to soften, then cut in half and juice until you have about 1 cup (240 ml) of fresh lemon juice. Remove any seeds.
  2. In a pitcher or mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup (50 g) sweetener with 1 cup (240 ml) cold water. Stir until fully dissolved.
  3. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of activated charcoal powder into the sweetened water. Whisk vigorously for 30 seconds to evenly disperse the charcoal without clumps.
  4. Add the fresh lemon juice and the remaining 3 cups (720 ml) of cold water. Stir gently to combine all flavors. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Serve over ice cubes and garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Activated charcoal can stain surfaces and fabric; clean spills promptly. Do not consume daily or near medication times as charcoal can interfere with absorption. Whisk charcoal with sweetener and water first to avoid clumps. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for best flavor. Serve chilled or over ice. Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; stir before serving.
