A bold and refreshing summer party punch combining smoky bourbon, tart blackberries, and a hint of BBQ spice for a crowd-pleasing drink that’s quick and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh or thawed blackberries
  • 1 ยฝ cups (360ml) bourbon (smooth, mid-range brand like Buffalo Trace or Makerโ€™s Mark)
  • ยฝ cup (120ml) fresh lemon juice
  • ยฝ cup (120ml) simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, dissolved)
  • 1 teaspoon BBQ seasoning blend (smoked paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, pinch of cayenne)
  • 2 cups (480ml) chilled ginger beer or sparkling water
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Muddle the blackberries in a large pitcher using a muddler or wooden spoon until juice is released but berries are not completely pulverized.
  2. Add bourbon and fresh lemon juice to the pitcher and stir gently to combine.
  3. Mix in simple syrup and BBQ seasoning, stirring well to blend the flavors.
  4. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes to let flavors marry (optional but recommended).
  5. Just before serving, add chilled ginger beer or sparkling water and plenty of ice cubes.
  6. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and whole blackberries, then serve.

Notes

Do not over-muddle blackberries to avoid bitterness from seeds. Add ginger beer or sparkling water just before serving to maintain fizz. Adjust sweetness with extra simple syrup if needed. For a non-alcoholic version, omit bourbon and increase ginger beer or sparkling water with a splash of blackberry syrup.
