A refreshing cherry slushie with a spicy cayenne twist that balances sweet, tart, and heat for a cool summer drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (300g) frozen sweet cherries, pitted
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey or agave nectar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups (about 300g) ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cherries: If your cherries arenโ€™t pitted, remove pits first to avoid crunch.
  2. Juice the lime: Roll the lime, slice in half, and juice out 2 tablespoons (30 ml). Set aside.
  3. Add ingredients to the blender: Combine frozen cherries, lime juice, honey or agave nectar, cold water, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Blend until smooth: Pulse first to break down cherries, then blend on high for 30-45 seconds until mostly smooth but thick.
  5. Add ice cubes: Toss in ice cubes and blend again, pulsing initially to crush ice, then blend for 15-20 seconds until slushie texture forms. Adjust thickness with water or more ice as needed.
  6. Test the spice level: Taste and add more cayenne if desired, blending briefly.
  7. Serve immediately: Pour into tall glasses, garnish with fresh mint leaves and a lime wedge if desired.

Notes

Use frozen cherries for best icy texture. Start with less cayenne if sensitive to spice and adjust after blending. Letting the blended mixture sit in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving firms up the slushie. Clean blender immediately after use to prevent staining.
