classic smooth manhattan cocktail - featured image

A smooth and balanced Manhattan cocktail made with rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters, stirred to perfection and served ice-cold with a maraschino cherry garnish. Perfect for cozy evenings and entertaining guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 or 2 maraschino cherries (for garnish)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Chill your martini or coupe glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to cool while preparing the cocktail.
  2. Pour 2 oz rye whiskey, 1 oz sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into a cocktail mixing glass using a jigger for accuracy.
  3. Fill the mixing glass about three-quarters full with large ice cubes.
  4. Stir gently with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds to chill and dilute the drink just right.
  5. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass and garnish with one or two maraschino cherries.

Notes

Use large ice cubes to prevent quick dilution. Stir gently to maintain a silky texture and clarity. Chill your glass beforehand for the best experience. For a smokier flavor, rinse the glass with a splash of whiskey before straining. Substitute bourbon for a gluten-free option or dry vermouth for a lighter cocktail. Non-alcoholic whiskey alternatives can be used but will alter the flavor.
