A warm and comforting hot toddy featuring bourbon, pure maple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and a cinnamon stick, perfect for cold nights and cozy moments.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) Bourbon Whiskey (e.g., Buffalo Trace)
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) Pure Maple Syrup (100% pure)
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 4 to 6 oz (120 to 180 ml) Hot Water
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • Optional Garnishes: Lemon wheel or twist, star anise

Instructions

  1. Heat 4 to 6 ounces (120 to 180 ml) of water until boiling.
  2. Freshly squeeze about 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of lemon juice.
  3. In a heatproof mug, pour 2 ounces (60 ml) of bourbon and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of pure maple syrup. Stir gently to blend.
  4. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice to the mug and stir gently.
  5. Slowly pour in the hot water, leaving room for the cinnamon stick. Stir to combine.
  6. Drop a cinnamon stick into the mug and let it steep for at least 2 minutes.
  7. Optionally garnish with a lemon wheel or twist and/or a star anise pod before serving.

Notes

Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Let the cinnamon stick steep for at least 2 minutes to release its aroma and flavor. Adjust sweetness and strength by varying maple syrup, lemon juice, and water amounts. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute bourbon with hot apple cider or spiced tea. Avoid boiling the drink after mixing to preserve flavors.
