A quick and easy dessert where rich, warm espresso meets cool, creamy vanilla ice cream, creating a velvety espresso swirl that’s both comforting and indulgent.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480 ml) vanilla ice cream, preferably high-quality or homemade
  • 2 shots (about 60 ml) freshly brewed hot espresso
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) whole milk or cream (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) brown sugar (optional)
  • ยฝ teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla extract
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brew 2 shots (about 60 ml) of fresh espresso using an espresso machine or stovetop Moka pot. Optionally, warm the espresso gently in a small saucepan with 1 teaspoon of brown sugar until dissolved and slightly thickened (about 2 minutes).
  2. Let the vanilla ice cream sit at room temperature for 3-5 minutes to soften.
  3. Whisk the softened ice cream with ยฝ teaspoon vanilla extract in a small bowl.
  4. Use an ice cream scoop to place 2 generous scoops (about 1 cup or 240 ml) of ice cream into each serving glass or bowl.
  5. Slowly pour the warm espresso over the ice cream, about 1 shot (30 ml) per serving, to create a marbling effect.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate shavings or a light dusting of cocoa powder on top and serve immediately with a small spoon.

Notes

Use fresh, hot espresso for the best swirl effect. Scoop ice cream just before serving to prevent melting. Adjust sweetness with brown sugar and vanilla extract to taste. For dairy-free or vegan options, substitute ice cream and cream with plant-based alternatives like coconut or almond milk.
