A rich and comforting latte featuring freshly brewed espresso, steamed milk blended with caramel sauce, and a perfectly torched caramelized sugar crust on top for a sweet, crackling finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots espresso or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee (about 60 ml/2 fl oz)
  • 1 cup whole milk (240 ml) or oat/almond milk for dairy-free option
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (organic or turbinado recommended) for brûlée crust
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional whipped cream for topping before torching

Instructions

  1. Brew 2 shots of espresso (about 60 ml/2 fl oz) or 1/2 cup (120 ml) strong brewed coffee and pour into a serving glass or mug.
  2. Heat 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk over medium heat until steaming but not boiling, or use a milk frother to heat and froth simultaneously.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons caramel sauce and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract to the milk and whisk gently to combine.
  4. Pour the caramel-infused steamed milk into the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon, then top with the milk foam.
  5. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon granulated sugar evenly over the milk foam. Optionally, add a dollop of whipped cream before sprinkling sugar for extra creaminess.
  6. Using a kitchen torch, carefully torch the sugar topping until it melts and turns golden brown with bubbles, about 20-30 seconds, rotating the mug slowly for even caramelization.
  7. Serve immediately to enjoy the warm, crackling brûlée crust.

Notes

Use granulated or turbinado sugar for the brûlée crust; powdered sugar will not caramelize properly. Warm milk gently to avoid burning and tough foam. Keep the torch moving slowly and hold 2-3 inches from the surface to prevent burning the sugar. Freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee is essential for best flavor. If no torch is available, use the oven broiler carefully. For vegan versions, use plant-based milk and dairy-free caramel sauce with coconut sugar topping.
