creamy classic egg cream recipe - featured image

A nostalgic New York City drink made with milk, chocolate syrup, and seltzer water, creating a creamy, fizzy, and refreshing beverage with a signature foamy crown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) chocolate syrup (Foxโ€™s U-Bet recommended)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) chilled seltzer water
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill your tall glass in the fridge or freezer for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of chocolate syrup into the cold glass.
  3. Slowly pour 1/2 cup (120 ml) of cold whole milk over the syrup and stir gently to blend without overmixing.
  4. Pour 1/2 cup (120 ml) of chilled seltzer water slowly and steadily from the bottle into the glass to create a foamy head.
  5. Do not stir after adding the seltzer. Serve immediately with a straw or spoon.

Notes

Use cold ingredients to maintain fizz and foam. Pour seltzer last and do not stir after adding it to keep the signature foam. Use a narrow glass for better foam stability. Adjust syrup quantity to taste. For a colder drink, add ice cubes but expect foam to dissipate faster.
