A quick and easy homemade matcha latte recipe that replicates the creamy texture and vibrant flavor of Starbucks’ version using oat milk and ceremonial grade matcha powder.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons high-quality ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) creamy oat milk (barista-style preferred)
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) hot water, just off the boil
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons sweetener of choice (organic cane sugar, maple syrup, or agave)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 ounces (60 ml) of water to just under boiling (about 175ยฐF / 80ยฐC).
  2. Place 1 to 2 teaspoons of matcha powder in a bowl or mug. Pour in the hot water and whisk briskly in a zigzag motion until smooth and frothy, about 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of sweetener and optional vanilla extract. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  4. Warm 1 cup (240 ml) of oat milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming, about 2-3 minutes. Avoid boiling.
  5. Froth the oat milk using a frother or whisk vigorously to create light foam.
  6. Pour the hot, frothed oat milk slowly into the matcha mixture. Stir gently to combine.
  7. Serve immediately in your favorite mug. For iced versions, chill the matcha base and pour over ice before adding cold oat milk.

Notes

Use ceremonial grade matcha powder for best flavor. Heat oat milk gently to avoid boiling. Whisk matcha vigorously in a zigzag motion to create froth. Adjust sweetener gradually to keep matcha flavor prominent. For frothing without a frother, shake hot oat milk in a sealed jar.
