A cozy and bold homemade dirty chai latte combining spicy chai tea with a shot of espresso and creamy milk, perfect for a comforting caffeine boost.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 chai tea bags (Tazo or Twinings recommended)
  • 1 shot (1 oz / 30 ml) freshly brewed espresso
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk (whole milk preferred, almond or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or brown sugar (optional)
  • Ground cinnamon and nutmeg for topping

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 cup (240 ml) of water to just boiling (about 210ยฐF / 99ยฐC). Pour over 1-2 chai tea bags in a teapot or heatproof cup. Let steep for 5 minutes, then remove the bags gently.
  2. While chai steeps, brew a fresh espresso shot (1 oz / 30 ml). If no espresso machine, use strong coffee concentrate or Moka pot.
  3. Heat 1 cup (240 ml) of milk over medium-low heat until steaming (around 150ยฐF / 65ยฐC). Froth milk using a whisk or handheld frother to create light foam.
  4. Stir vanilla syrup and honey or brown sugar into the steeped chai tea. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  5. Pour the sweetened chai tea into a large mug, add the hot espresso shot, then gently pour in the frothed milk, holding back foam with a spoon. Top with foam.
  6. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg on top. Stir gently and serve immediately.

Notes

Steep chai tea for about 5 minutes to avoid bitterness. Use fresh espresso for best flavor. Froth milk carefully to avoid scorching. Adding sweeteners before combining espresso and chai helps flavors meld better. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg for extra aroma.
