A creamy and energizing latte combining earthy matcha, robust espresso, and silky oat milk for a comforting yet bold caffeine boost.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 teaspoon ceremonial or culinary grade matcha powder
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) hot water, about 175ยฐF (80ยฐC)
  • 1 shot (1 oz / 30 ml) freshly brewed espresso
  • ยพ cup (180 ml) oat milk, unsweetened or lightly sweetened
  • ยฝ teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat water to about 175ยฐF (80ยฐC). Place 1 teaspoon of matcha powder in a small bowl or cup.
  2. Pour in 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of hot water. Whisk briskly in a zigzag motion with a chasen or whisk until frothy and smooth, about 20 seconds.
  3. Prepare 1 shot (1 oz / 30 ml) of espresso using preferred method.
  4. Heat ยพ cup (180 ml) oat milk until steaming but not boiling (around 140ยฐF / 60ยฐC). Froth using a milk frother or whisk vigorously to create light foam. For iced version, skip warming and use cold oat milk.
  5. Pour frothy oat milk into the matcha mixture and stir gently to combine.
  6. Add the espresso shot on top slowly to create a layered effect if desired.
  7. Stir in ยฝ teaspoon maple syrup or honey if using, adjust sweetness to taste.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

Whisk matcha with hot water before adding milk to avoid clumps and bitterness. Pour espresso last to control the ‘dirty’ strength. Avoid overheating oat milk to prevent curdling. For iced version, whisk matcha with cold water and use chilled oat milk and espresso poured over ice.
