A rich and velvety milkshake combining the bittersweet depth of Guinness stout with creamy vanilla ice cream, topped with decadent whipped cream. Perfect for cozy nights, celebrations, or a nostalgic treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 fl oz (355 ml) Guinness Stout (classic Guinness Draught recommended)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) vanilla ice cream (high-quality, e.g., Hรคagen-Dazs)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk (can substitute almond or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 2 tbsp (25 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) heavy whipping cream (chilled)
  • 2 tbsp (15 g) powdered sugar
  • Optional garnishes: chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Chill your serving glasses in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
  2. In a chilled mixing bowl, combine heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar. Beat with an electric mixer or whisk until soft peaks form (about 3-5 minutes). Avoid overwhipping.
  3. In a blender, combine vanilla ice cream, whole milk, Guinness stout, granulated sugar, and pure vanilla extract. Blend on medium-high for 30-45 seconds until smooth and creamy. Adjust thickness by adding more milk or ice cream as needed.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar if desired, then pulse to combine.
  5. Pour the milkshake into chilled glasses, leaving room at the top.
  6. Generously spoon or pipe the whipped cream over each glass, swirling for a decorative look.
  7. Optionally garnish with chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or caramel sauce.
  8. Serve immediately with a straw and long spoon.

Notes

Use cold, freshly opened Guinness stout for best flavor. Chill ice cream and stout before blending. Whip cream to soft peaks to avoid butter formation. Chill glasses to keep milkshake cold longer. For dairy-free version, substitute ice cream and milk with plant-based alternatives and use coconut cream for whipped topping. Non-alcoholic version can use malted milk or root beer instead of Guinness.
