A simple, barista-style creamy matcha latte made with oat milk, perfect for a soothing morning ritual or cozy afternoon break.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 teaspoon ceremonial-grade matcha powder
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) hot water, about 175ยฐF (80ยฐC)
  • 8 ounces (240 ml) oat milk, barista blend preferred
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • A few drops vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 ounces (60 ml) of water to about 175ยฐF (80ยฐC). Let boiling water sit for a minute if no thermometer is available.
  2. Place 1 teaspoon of matcha powder into a bowl. Pour the warm water over it and whisk briskly in a zig-zag motion with a bamboo whisk or small frother until dissolved and light foam appears (20-30 seconds).
  3. Warm 8 ounces (240 ml) of oat milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until steaming but not boiling (2-3 minutes). Alternatively, heat and froth simultaneously with a milk frother.
  4. Froth the oat milk until it forms a thick, velvety foam.
  5. Stir 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey and a few drops of vanilla extract into the matcha mixture if desired.
  6. Pour the steamed oat milk gently into the matcha bowl or mug, holding back the foam with a spoon. Spoon the foam on top to finish.
  7. Give the latte a gentle swirl with a spoon to slightly blend layers without fully mixing.

Notes

Soak bamboo whisk in warm water before use to soften tines. Use barista blend oat milk for best frothing and creaminess. Avoid overheating oat milk to prevent burnt taste. Whisk matcha briskly in zig-zag motion to avoid clumps. Adjust sweetness after tasting. For iced version, whisk matcha with cold water and serve over ice with cold oat milk.
