A creamy, comforting oat milk matcha latte made from scratch with simple ingredients, perfect for cozy moments and quick preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats
  • 3 cups (720ml) filtered water
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons (2-4g) matcha powder
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons (5-10ml) maple syrup, honey, or agave (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) hot water for whisking matcha
  • Optional toppings: cinnamon or vanilla extract drops

Instructions

  1. Rinse 1 cup (90g) rolled oats under cold water briefly to remove excess starch, then drain well. Add the oats and 3 cups (720ml) filtered water to your blender.
  2. Blend on high for 40-60 seconds until the mixture looks smooth and creamy but not overly frothy. Avoid over-blending as it can make the oat milk slimy.
  3. Pour the blended oats through a nut milk bag or fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth into a large bowl or jug. Gently squeeze or press to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard or save the leftover pulp for baking or smoothies.
  4. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and sweeten with 1 to 2 teaspoons (5-10ml) maple syrup or your preferred sweetener to taste. Chill the oat milk if you want an iced latte or use immediately for warm.
  5. Heat 1/4 cup (60ml) water to about 175ยฐF (80ยฐC) โ€” just below boiling. Place 1 to 2 teaspoons (2-4g) matcha powder into a bowl or mug. Pour the hot water over it and whisk briskly in a zigzag motion with a bamboo whisk or small regular whisk until frothy and smooth with no lumps.
  6. Pour 1 cup (240ml) of your homemade oat milk into a mug and gently stir in the prepared matcha. For a warm latte, heat the oat milk gently on the stove or microwave before combining. For iced, add ice cubes and pour matcha over the chilled oat milk.
  7. Optional garnish: Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or a few drops of vanilla extract on top for extra aroma and flavor.

Notes

Avoid over-blending oats to prevent slimy texture. Use a nut milk bag for smoothest oat milk. Heat water to just below boiling (175ยฐF/80ยฐC) to avoid bitter matcha. Sweeten to taste and adjust matcha strength as preferred. Store leftover oat milk in airtight container in fridge up to 3 days; shake before use.
