A quick and easy creamy matcha white hot chocolate made in one mug using a microwave, perfect for cozy nights and simple indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (or almond, oat, or any milk of choice for dairy-free)
  • 1/4 cup (40 g) white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate
  • 1 to 1.5 teaspoons ceremonial-grade matcha powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup (240 ml) of milk into a microwave-safe mug. Heat in the microwave on high for 1 to 1.5 minutes until steaming but not boiling.
  2. Stir in 1/4 cup (40 g) white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate. Mix well until fully melted and smooth, stirring every 30 seconds to avoid scorching.
  3. Sift 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of matcha powder into a small bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of hot water from the milk and whisk vigorously until frothy and lump-free.
  4. Pour the matcha mixture into the mug and stir thoroughly to blend all flavors.
  5. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract and, if desired, 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey. Add a tiny pinch of salt to balance flavors.
  6. Microwave the mug for another 20-30 seconds to ensure everything is warm and melded together. Stir vigorously for a silky finish.
  7. Optional: Sprinkle a tiny pinch of matcha powder or add a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

Use ceremonial-grade matcha for best flavor. Whisk matcha with hot water before adding to milk to avoid lumps. Heat milk in short bursts to prevent foaming over. Adjust sweetness after tasting. Use a larger mug to avoid spills. For dairy-free, substitute milk and white chocolate accordingly.
