A quick and easy creamy peppermint hot chocolate that is rich, velvety, and perfect for cozy winter moments. Made with whole milk, heavy cream, and high-quality dark chocolate, it offers a festive minty flavor without being overpowering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk (480 ml)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (60 ml)
  • 4 oz dark chocolate, chopped (115 g)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional whipped cream topping
  • Optional crushed peppermint candies

Instructions

  1. Pour 2 cups whole milk and 1/4 cup heavy cream into a medium saucepan. Warm over medium heat for about 3โ€“4 minutes until steaming but not boiling.
  2. Stir in 4 oz chopped dark chocolate and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar. Whisk continuously to melt the chocolate evenly, about 2โ€“3 minutes, until the mixture is glossy and smooth.
  3. Add 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to blend all flavors.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat. Optionally, use an immersion blender or transfer to a blender and pulse briefly for about 10 seconds to create a light, frothy texture.
  5. Pour into mugs and serve immediately. Top with whipped cream and crushed peppermint candies if desired.

Notes

Heat milk slowly over medium heat to avoid scorching. Whisk continuously while melting chocolate for smooth texture. Use peppermint extract sparingly to avoid overpowering flavor. Blending briefly creates a frothy, cafรฉ-style finish. For thicker texture, add a teaspoon of cornstarch dissolved in cold milk at the start. Dairy-free substitutions include almond, oat, or coconut milk with added coconut cream for richness.
