This Creamy Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie is what happens when your craving for fall dessert meets your need for a healthy breakfast. It tastes like a milkshake but acts like a meal, and it’s the recipe that finally made me stop skipping breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large frozen banana (peeled, sliced, and frozen overnight)
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (100% pure, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of choice)
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (about 2530 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional, adjust to taste)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 34 ice cubes (optional, for extra coldness)

Instructions

  1. Prep your banana in advance: Peel a ripe banana, slice into 1-inch rounds, and freeze on a parchment-lined baking sheet for at least 4 hours or overnight. Transfer to a freezer bag.
  2. Add liquids first: Pour almond milk into the blender.
  3. Add the pumpkin puree and let it settle.
  4. Add the frozen banana slices.
  5. Add the protein powder, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, vanilla extract, salt, and maple syrup (if using) on top.
  6. Blend on low for 10 seconds, then increase to high speed for 30-45 seconds until smooth.
  7. Stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula.
  8. Blend again on high for 15-20 seconds until thick, smooth, and glossy. Adjust consistency with additional milk or ice cubes if needed.
  9. Taste and adjust sweetness or spices as desired.
  10. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

Notes

The frozen banana is non-negotiable for texture. Don’t skip the saltโ€”it brightens the flavors. Blend in stages to prevent the banana from getting stuck. If the smoothie is too thick, add milk a tablespoon at a time. If too thin, add more frozen banana or ice cubes. For best results, serve immediately.
