A rich, creamy, and velvety hot chocolate with a red velvet twist, perfect for cozy winter evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk (or almond, oat, or coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or coconut cream for dairy-free)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 drops red food coloring (or beet powder for natural coloring)
  • 2 tablespoons softened cream cheese
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until warm but not boiling, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add semi-sweet chocolate chips and cocoa powder. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and stir in granulated sugar and vanilla extract. Taste and add more sugar if needed.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together cream cheese until smooth. Gradually whisk the cream cheese into the hot chocolate mixture.
  5. Add red food coloring and stir until the color is evenly distributed. Adjust the intensity of the color to your liking.
  6. Continue heating the mixture on low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until everything is well combined and velvety.
  7. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or sprinkles.
