A quick and easy homemade iced caramel macchiato that replicates the Starbucks favorite with simple ingredients and a beautiful layered presentation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (about 2 oz / 60 ml) freshly brewed espresso or strong brewed coffee
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold milk of your choice (whole milk, almond, or oat milk)
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (preferably homemade)
  • Ice cubes (enough to fill your glass)

Instructions

  1. Brew two shots of espresso (about 2 oz / 60 ml) or brew a concentrated coffee using your preferred method. Set aside to cool slightly (2-3 minutes).
  2. Pour 2 tablespoons of vanilla syrup into your serving glass and stir if using homemade syrup.
  3. Add enough ice to fill about three-quarters of the glass (roughly 1 cup or 240 ml of ice).
  4. Slowly add 1 cup (240 ml) of cold milk over the ice, pouring gently to keep layers distinct.
  5. Carefully pour the warm espresso over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass to create a layered effect.
  6. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce in a zigzag pattern over the top.
  7. Optionally stir before drinking or sip slowly to enjoy the layers.

Notes

Use cold milk and plenty of ice for best layering. Pour espresso slowly over the back of a spoon to keep layers distinct. Homemade caramel sauce improves flavor and reduces preservatives. If espresso cools too much, warm gently for 10 seconds in microwave. For vegan version, use plant-based milk and vegan caramel sauce.
