Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (60 ml) espresso or 3/4 cup (180 ml) strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • Toffee Nut Syrup:
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar (dark or light)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract or hazelnut extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk or dairy-free milk alternative (e.g., oat milk)
  • Ice cubes as needed
  • Creamy Whipped Topping:
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy whipping cream, chilled
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional garnishes: toffee bits, chopped nuts, or a light drizzle of toffee nut syrup

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Toffee Nut Syrup: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup water. Stir gently until sugar dissolves.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons unsalted butter and let it melt and bubble, stirring occasionally. Once thickened slightly (about 5 minutes), remove from heat.
  3. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon almond or hazelnut extract, and a pinch of salt. Let cool to room temperature.
  4. Brew the Coffee: Prepare 2 shots (60 ml) espresso or 3/4 cup (180 ml) strong brewed coffee. Set aside to cool completely.
  5. Whip the Cream: Pour 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream into a chilled bowl. Add 1 tablespoon powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  6. Whisk or beat with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
  7. Assemble the Latte: Fill a tall glass about 3/4 full with ice cubes. Pour in cooled espresso or coffee, then add 1 cup milk or milk alternative.
  8. Add 2-3 tablespoons of homemade toffee nut syrup (adjust sweetness to taste). Stir gently to combine.
  9. Top generously with the creamy whipped topping.
  10. Garnish and Serve: Drizzle extra toffee nut syrup or sprinkle toffee bits or chopped nuts over the whipped cream. Serve immediately.

Notes

Keep heat medium when making syrup to avoid burning brown sugar. Chill bowl and cream before whipping for best results. Stop whipping cream at soft peaks to avoid graininess. Warm syrup slightly if too thick before mixing. Layer ingredients for visual appeal.
