  • 1 teaspoon (about 2 grams) ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sweetener (simple syrup, honey, or maple syrup)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) hot water (around 175ยฐF/80ยฐC)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold milk of choice (oat milk recommended)
  • ยฝ to 1 cup (120240 ml) ice cubes
  • Optional: a splash of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Measure 1 teaspoon of matcha powder into your blender or bowl.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of your chosen sweetener.
  3. Add about 2 tablespoons of hot water (not boiling, around 175ยฐF/80ยฐC) to the powder and sweetener. Whisk or blend until fully dissolved and smooth with no lumps.
  4. Pour in 1 cup of cold milk of choice.
  5. Add ยฝ to 1 cup of ice cubes depending on how chilled you want it.
  6. Blend everything for 15-20 seconds until frothy and creamy, or shake vigorously in a shaker bottle.
  7. Serve immediately, optionally garnish with a sprinkle of matcha powder on top.

Notes

Avoid using boiling water directly on matcha to prevent bitterness. Blend or whisk well to avoid clumps. Use oat milk for natural sweetness and creaminess. Adjust sweetener to taste. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor. Can be made ahead by mixing matcha and sweetener with hot water and refrigerating up to 24 hours; add milk and ice before serving.
