This frozen watermelon margarita slush is the drink you make when you want to impress people without actually trying that hard. It’s cold, sweet, boozy, and ridiculously easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (about 600g) watermelon, cubed and frozen
  • ยฝ cup (120ml) silver tequila
  • ยผ cup (60ml) fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) orange liqueur (triple sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) simple syrup (or to taste)
  • 1 cup (about 150g) ice
  • Salt (for rimming the glass, optional)
  • Lime wedges and watermelon wedges (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep the watermelon: Cube watermelon into 1-inch chunks (about 4 cups). Remove any seeds. Spread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Rim your glasses (optional): Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip into coarse salt or Tajรญn. Set aside.
  3. Blend the base: Add frozen watermelon cubes, silver tequila, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, simple syrup, and ice to a blender. Start on low speed and gradually increase to high. If too thick, add a splash of cold water (no more than 2 tablespoons at a time).
  4. Taste and adjust: Stop the blender and taste. Add more simple syrup if needed, or more tequila for extra kick. Aim for a slightly stronger flavor as it will mellow when melting.
  5. Blend until smooth: Continue blending on high for 30-45 seconds until completely smooth and thick, slushy consistency.
  6. Pour and serve immediately: Divide slush between prepared glasses. Garnish with a lime wedge and a small watermelon wedge. Serve immediately with a wide straw.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, skip tequila and orange liqueur and add ยฝ cup coconut water and extra lime juice. For a spicy version, add 1-2 slices fresh jalapeรฑo. For a basil version, add 5-6 fresh basil leaves. For a strawberry version, swap 1 cup frozen watermelon for frozen strawberries. For a skinny version, use sugar-free sweetener and skip orange liqueur. Make ahead: blend everything except ice, freeze for up to a month, then re-blend with ice when ready to serve.
