A sophisticated twist on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail featuring fresh figs and honey for a balanced, fruity, and smooth flavor perfect for cozy evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe fresh figs, quartered
  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey
  • 1 tsp honey (raw or wildflower)
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 strip orange peel, for garnish
  • Large ice cubes or one big ice sphere
  • Optional: splash of club soda
  • Optional: fresh rosemary sprig for garnish

Instructions

  1. Quarter and muddle 2 ripe figs gently in an Old Fashioned glass to release juice without pulverizing.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon honey and 2 dashes Angostura bitters; mix gently with muddler or bar spoon to blend.
  3. Pour 2 ounces bourbon into the glass and stir gently to combine and chill without melting the ice.
  4. Add one or two large ice cubes or a single ice sphere and let rest for about 30 seconds to chill and marry flavors.
  5. Express oils from an orange peel over the glass, rub peel around the rim, then drop it into the cocktail.
  6. Optionally, add a fresh rosemary sprig for aroma and visual appeal.
  7. Optional: top with a splash of club soda and stir gently before serving.

Notes

Muddle figs gently to avoid a mushy texture. Use large ice cubes or spheres to slow dilution. Measure bourbon and honey carefully for balance. Stir gently to chill without melting ice. Garnishes like orange peel and rosemary add aroma and complexity. Can prepare fig, honey, and bitters mixture up to 24 hours ahead; add bourbon and ice before serving.
