A velvety, frothy iced matcha latte sweetened with honey, offering a refreshing and energizing pick-me-up with a smooth texture and vibrant green swirl.

  • 1 teaspoon ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons honey (raw or wildflower preferred)
  • 1 cup (8 fl oz) milk (whole milk, almond milk, or oat milk)
  • Ice cubes (enough to fill the glass)
  • 2 tablespoons hot water (just off boil, about 175ยฐF or 80ยฐC)

Instructions

  1. Sift 1 teaspoon of matcha powder through a fine mesh sieve into a small bowl to remove lumps.
  2. Pour 2 tablespoons of hot water (about 175ยฐF or 80ยฐC) over the sifted matcha powder.
  3. Whisk briskly in a zigzag motion with a bamboo whisk (chasen) or electric frother until frothy, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  4. Stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of honey while the mixture is still warm to dissolve thoroughly.
  5. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes to the top.
  6. Pour 1 cup of your chosen milk over the ice.
  7. Slowly pour the matcha-honey mixture over the milk and ice, watch the green swirl, then stir gently before sipping.

Notes

For best texture, sift matcha powder before whisking to avoid clumps. Use hot water just off boil (around 175ยฐF) to prevent bitterness. Honey dissolves best when added to warm matcha, not cold milk. Use large clear ice cubes to slow melting and avoid dilution. For vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup or agave syrup and use plant-based milk. Warming milk slightly helps honey dissolve if needed. Add extra ยฝ teaspoon matcha for stronger flavor but increase honey to balance bitterness.
