A quick and refreshing sparkling water drink combining fresh blueberries, basil, and lemon juice for a light, bubbly summer beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ยฝ cup fresh blueberries (about 75 g)
  • 68 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 medium lemon, juiced (about 2 tablespoons or 30 ml)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) sparkling water
  • 1 teaspoon honey, agave syrup, or simple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse about ยฝ cup of fresh blueberries under cold water. Set aside a few for garnish if desired.
  2. Gently rinse 6-8 fresh basil leaves. Tear them slightly to release flavor and place in a glass or pitcher.
  3. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, gently press down on the basil leaves until you smell their aroma, avoiding over-muddling.
  4. Add the blueberries to the glass or pitcher with the basil. Lightly muddle a few blueberries to release juice, keeping some whole for texture.
  5. Cut one medium lemon in half and squeeze out about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of fresh juice, removing seeds. Add the juice to the mixture.
  6. If desired, stir in 1 teaspoon of honey or preferred sweetener until dissolved.
  7. Slowly add 2 cups (480 ml) of chilled sparkling water to the mixture. Stir gently to combine without losing fizz.
  8. Garnish with a few whole blueberries and a small basil leaf. Serve immediately over ice if desired.

Notes

Do not over-muddle basil to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Chill ingredients beforehand to keep the drink crisp longer. Add sparkling water just before serving to maintain fizz. Letting the mixture sit 5-10 minutes enhances flavor but bubbles will fade if left too long.
