A refreshing and unique summer drink combining the mellow sweetness of cantaloupe with the spicy zing of fresh ginger, perfect for hot days and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh cantaloupe, cubed (ripe and sweet)
  • 1 to 1.5 inches fresh ginger root, peeled and grated (adjust to taste)
  • Juice of 1 large lime
  • 3 cups cold water (or chilled sparkling water for a bubbly twist)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup (optional)
  • Ice cubes, to serve

Instructions

  1. Peel and cube the cantaloupe, peel and grate the fresh ginger, and squeeze the juice from one large lime. This should take about 10 minutes.
  2. Place the cantaloupe cubes and grated ginger into a blender. Add 1 cup (240 ml) of cold water to help it blend smoothly. Blend on high until completely smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large pitcher. Use a spoon or spatula to press the pulp and extract as much liquid as possible.
  4. Stir in the lime juice, remaining 2 cups (480 ml) of cold water, and honey or agave syrup if using. Taste and adjust sweetness or lime as desired. For a fizzy version, substitute still water with sparkling water.
  5. Add plenty of ice cubes to the pitcher or pour over individual glasses. Stir gently before serving. Best enjoyed immediately but can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours.

Notes

Adjust ginger amount to taste to avoid overpowering the drink. Straining ensures a smooth texture but can be skipped for a chunkier drink. Use ripe cantaloupe for natural sweetness and vibrant color. Chill serving glasses beforehand to keep the drink cooler longer. Can substitute water with sparkling water for a bubbly version. Sweetener is optional depending on cantaloupe sweetness.
