A quick and easy refreshing summer cocktail combining crisp cucumber, floral elderflower cordial, and gin with sparkling water for a light, elegant spritz.

  • 1 oz elderflower cordial
  • ยผ fresh English cucumber, thinly sliced
  • ยฝ oz fresh lime juice
  • 3 oz sparkling water

  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and thinly slice about ยผ of an English cucumber (about 1/8 inch thick). Set aside a few slices for garnish.
  2. Cut a fresh lime in half and squeeze out ยฝ oz (15 ml) of juice, straining out seeds.
  3. In a mixing glass or shaker, combine 2 oz gin, 1 oz elderflower cordial, and the fresh lime juice. Add a handful of cucumber slices and gently muddle to release aroma and a bit of juice without pulverizing.
  4. Fill the mixing glass halfway with ice cubes to chill the mixture.
  5. Stir gently for about 15 seconds to combine flavors and chill. Alternatively, lightly shake without breaking up cucumber too much.
  6. Strain the mixture into a large wine glass or highball glass filled with fresh ice cubes. Skip straining if you prefer cucumber bits in the drink.
  7. Top with 3 oz sparkling water and gently stir to combine.
  8. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a couple of thin cucumber slices.
  9. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

Use fresh lime juice and cucumber for best flavor. Avoid over-muddling cucumber to prevent bitterness. Keep all ingredients chilled for a refreshing drink. Adjust elderflower cordial sweetness to taste. Can substitute sparkling water with dry sparkling wine for a festive twist. For a mocktail, omit gin and increase elderflower cordial and sparkling water.
