A refreshing summer drink combining fresh blueberries, mint, and sparkling water for a bubbly, bright lemonade perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (150 grams) fresh blueberries
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves
  • 4 large lemons, juiced (about 1 cup or 240 ml lemon juice)
  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) sugar (or honey/agave syrup as substitute)
  • 3 cups (720 ml) cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 cups (480 ml) sparkling water (plain or lightly flavored)
  • Lemon slices (for garnish, optional)
  • Extra mint sprigs (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the simple syrup: Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup cold water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar dissolves completely (about 3-5 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Juice the lemons: Roll lemons on the counter to loosen juice, then cut and juice them until you have about 1 cup fresh lemon juice. Strain seeds out.
  3. Muddle blueberries and mint: In a large pitcher, add blueberries and mint leaves. Use a muddler or wooden spoon to gently press until berries start releasing juice but still hold some shape.
  4. Combine lemonade base: Pour in lemon juice, cooled simple syrup, and remaining 2 cups cold water. Stir gently to mix. Taste and adjust sugar or water if needed.
  5. Chill: Refrigerate the lemonade base for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and cool completely.
  6. Add sparkling water and ice: Just before serving, gently stir in sparkling water. Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour lemonade over, and garnish with lemon slices and mint sprigs.
  7. Serve immediately for maximum fizz and flavor.

Notes

Use gentle muddling to avoid bitterness and muddy color. Make simple syrup to prevent gritty sugar texture. Keep sparkling water chilled and add last to preserve fizz. Frozen blueberries can be used if thawed gently. Adjust sweetness with natural sweeteners if desired.
