A light and easy summer drink combining fresh strawberries and basil for a refreshing boost, perfect for warm days and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 810 fresh basil leaves, gently torn
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about 1 medium lemon)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup (240ml) cold water or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes, as needed for serving

Instructions

  1. Wash and hull about 1 cup (150g) of fresh strawberries. Slice into halves or quarters depending on size.
  2. In a sturdy glass or small pitcher, add the sliced strawberries and 8-10 fresh basil leaves. Gently muddle using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to bruise the ingredients and release juices and oils, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons (30ml) fresh lemon juice and 1 to 2 tablespoons (15-30ml) honey or agave nectar. Stir gently until the sweetener dissolves.
  4. Add 1 cup (240ml) cold water or sparkling water and stir gently to combine.
  5. Optional: Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a serving glass for a pulp-free drink.
  6. Fill the serving glass with ice cubes or crushed ice. Garnish with a sprig of fresh basil or a halved strawberry. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not over-muddle to avoid bitterness and mushy texture. Use fresh ingredients for best flavor. Chill glasses before serving for extra refreshment. Prepare muddled mixture ahead and store in fridge up to 4 hours without ice. Add ice and sparkling water just before serving.
