A quick and refreshing summer drink combining fresh watermelon, lime juice, and mint for a perfectly balanced, hydrating beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups (900 grams) cubed seedless watermelon
  • Juice of 2 large limes (about 3 tablespoons or 45 ml)
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves, plus extra for garnish
  • 3 cups (720 ml) filtered water
  • 23 tablespoons granulated sugar or agave syrup, adjust to taste
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut about 1 small seedless watermelon into cubes, measuring roughly 6 cups (900 grams) of flesh. Remove any seeds if present.
  2. Place the cubed watermelon into your blender. Blend on high speed for about 1 minute until completely smooth.
  3. Pour the blended watermelon through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl or pitcher, pressing the pulp to extract as much juice as possible (optional).
  4. Stir in the freshly squeezed juice of 2 large limes and 2-3 tablespoons of granulated sugar or agave syrup, adjusting sweetness to taste.
  5. Pour in 3 cups (720 ml) of filtered water. Tear 10-12 fresh mint leaves by hand and muddle them gently in the pitcher before stirring into the agua fresca.
  6. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and cool down. Alternatively, add plenty of ice cubes directly to the pitcher if in a hurry.
  7. Serve poured over ice in glasses, garnished with extra mint leaves or thin lime slices.

Notes

Straining the juice is optional but recommended for a smoother texture. Tear mint leaves by hand to avoid bitterness. Adjust sweetness gradually to taste. For a fizzy twist, replace half the water with sparkling water before serving. Use ripe watermelon for best flavor. Can be prepared up to 24 hours ahead; add fresh mint just before serving.
