A refreshing and easy-to-make summer cocktail featuring fresh watermelon, lime, tequila, and a salted rim with an optional spicy twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups cubed seedless watermelon (about 450 grams or 15.9 oz)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) tequila blanco
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (1530 ml) simple syrup
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups (240360 ml) ice cubes
  • Coarse salt for rimming glasses
  • Pinch of chili powder or smoked paprika (optional for rim)
  • Optional garnishes: lime wedges, fresh mint sprigs, small watermelon slices

Instructions

  1. Cut about 3 cups (450 grams) of seedless watermelon into chunks small enough to blend easily.
  2. Squeeze about 1/4 cup (60 ml) of fresh lime juice using a citrus juicer.
  3. In a blender, combine watermelon chunks, 1/2 cup (120 ml) tequila blanco, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) triple sec, fresh lime juice, and 1 to 2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) simple syrup.
  4. Add 1 cup (240 ml) of ice cubes to chill and thicken the mixture.
  5. Blend on high for about 30 seconds until smooth and frothy.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more simple syrup if too tart, or add a splash of cold water or more ice if too thick; blend again for 10 seconds if needed.
  7. Rub a lime wedge around the rims of glasses and dip each rim into coarse salt mixed with chili powder or smoked paprika if desired.
  8. Pour the blended margarita into prepared glasses.
  9. Garnish with a lime wedge, small watermelon slice, and a sprig of fresh mint if desired.

Notes

Use fresh watermelon for best flavor and texture; frozen watermelon can be used but may require extra sweetener. Fresh lime juice is recommended over bottled for brightness. For a spicy twist, add chili powder or smoked paprika to the salt rim or blend in fresh jalapeรฑo slices. Avoid overblending to prevent warming the drink. Chill ingredients beforehand for a frosty drink without watering down.
