A cozy fall cocktail filled with flavors of fresh apples, pears, oranges, cinnamon, and cloves, perfect for autumn evenings and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle medium-bodied red wine (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Zinfandel)
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 2 apples (Honeycrisp or Gala), sliced thinly
  • 2 pears (Bartlett or Anjou), sliced thinly
  • 1 orange, sliced into thin rounds
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 45 whole cloves
  • 23 tablespoons maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup club soda

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples, pears, and orange thoroughly. Slice the apples and pears into thin wedges and cut the orange into thin rounds.
  2. Place the sliced fruit into a large pitcher. Toss in the cinnamon sticks and a few whole cloves.
  3. Pour the red wine, apple cider, and brandy into the pitcher. Stir gently but thoroughly to combine.
  4. Add 2-3 tablespoons of maple syrup, adjusting to taste. Stir again and taste-test for sweetness.
  5. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight is better) to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Just before serving, stir in the club soda for a refreshing sparkle.
  7. Pour the sangria into glasses, ensuring each serving includes some fruit slices. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a sprig of rosemary.

Notes

Allow the sangria to chill for at least 2 hours to develop its full flavor. Adjust sweetness with maple syrup, honey, or simple syrup as desired. Experiment with spices like star anise or nutmeg for a unique twist.
