Hot Buttered Rum Recipe – Perfect Cozy Winter Cocktail

A warm and comforting winter cocktail made with spiced rum, butter, brown sugar, and warm spices. Perfect for chilly nights or holiday gatherings.

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ounces (60ml) spiced rum
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) hot water
  • Optional garnishes: cinnamon stick, whipped cream, sprinkle of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup (113g) softened unsalted butter, 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
  2. If preparing ahead, transfer the mixture to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks. Let it soften slightly before using.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture to a mug. Pour in 2 ounces (60ml) of spiced rum and top with 3/4 cup (180ml) of hot water.
  4. Stir until the butter mixture dissolves completely. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, a dollop of whipped cream, or a sprinkle of nutmeg if desired.
