A rich, buttery, and spiced winter cocktail perfect for chilly evenings or holiday gatherings. Easy to make with simple pantry staples.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 ounces dark rum
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened), 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  2. Whisk the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. The texture should resemble a soft, spiced butter.
  3. Transfer the buttered rum batter to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator until ready to use (it will keep for up to 2 weeks).
  4. To prepare the cocktail, boil 1 cup of water in a kettle or saucepan.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of buttered rum batter to a mug, followed by 1 1/2 ounces of dark rum.
  6. Pour the hot water into the mug and stir gently until the batter dissolves completely.
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness or spice levels, if desired. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Notes

[‘Make sure your butter is softened for easy blending.’, ‘Use freshly ground spices for the best flavor.’, ‘Adjust the sweetness by reducing the brown sugar if preferred.’, ‘Store leftover batter in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze for up to three months.’]
