iced matcha latte

This easy, creamy iced matcha latte is the perfect homemade drink for summer. Refreshing, gently energizing, and customizable, it’s a delicious alternative to coffee and a treat you can whip up in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 to 1.5 teaspoons matcha powder (ceremonial or good quality preferred)
  • 23 tablespoons hot water (about 175ยฐF, not boiling)
  • 3/4 cup (6 oz) milk of choice (oat, dairy, almond, soy, coconut, etc.)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or simple syrup (or sweetener of choice, to taste; optional)
  • Ice (enough to fill a tall glass)
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Scoop 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of matcha powder into a small bowl or cup. Sift if clumpy.
  2. Add 2-3 tablespoons of hot (not boiling) water to the matcha.
  3. Whisk vigorously with a small whisk, milk frother, or fork until smooth and frothy.
  4. Add sweetener if using, and whisk again until dissolved.
  5. Fill a tall glass almost to the top with ice cubes.
  6. Pour 3/4 cup (6 oz) of your chosen milk over the ice.
  7. Slowly pour the whisked matcha mixture over the milk and ice.
  8. Add a splash of vanilla extract if desired.
  9. Stir with a spoon or straw, taste, and adjust sweetness or milk as needed. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

For best results, use ceremonial grade matcha and sift before whisking to avoid clumps. Let hot water cool slightly before adding to matcha to prevent bitterness. Adjust sweetness and milk to taste. For extra froth, blend the milk and matcha together before pouring over ice. Store pre-mixed matcha in the fridge for up to 3 days.
