A velvety hot chocolate infused with the rich, fruity notes of red wine, perfect for cozy winter evenings or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (500 ml) whole milk
  • ยฝ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
  • ยฝ cup (120 ml) dry red wine (e.g., Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Pinot Noir)
  • ยฝ cup (85 g) dark chocolate, chopped (at least 70% cocoa)
  • 2 tablespoons (15 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional garnishes: whipped cream, chocolate shavings, marshmallows, or cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups (500 ml) of milk and ยฝ cup (120 ml) of heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until warm but not boiling, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add ยฝ cup (120 ml) of red wine and continue to heat gently.
  3. Whisk in ยฝ cup (85 g) of dark chocolate (chopped) and 2 tablespoons (15 g) of unsweetened cocoa powder. Stir until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Add 2 tablespoons (25 g) of granulated sugar. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Stir in 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of vanilla extract and a small pinch of salt.
  6. Continue to heat the mixture until hot, but avoid boiling. Youโ€™ll know itโ€™s ready when steam begins to rise and the hot chocolate looks glossy and thick.
  7. Carefully ladle the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or marshmallows for an extra touch.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

[‘Choose a dry red wine like Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot for the best flavor.’, ‘Use high-quality dark chocolate for a smoother texture.’, ‘Avoid boiling the mixture to prevent separation of cream and loss of wine flavor.’, ‘Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.’, ‘Experiment with garnishes like whipped cream, marshmallows, or cinnamon for added flair.’]
