A rich, creamy hot chocolate with a hint of toasted marshmallow, perfect for cozy winter nights by the campfire or fireplace.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (500 ml) milk (whole milk or non-dairy alternative)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons (25 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) chocolate chips (dark, milk, or semi-sweet)
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Marshmallows (mini or full-sized)
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 2 cups of milk and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Heat until warm but not boiling, stirring occasionally.
  2. Whisk in 3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 cup of chocolate chips, and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of ground cinnamon (if using). Stir to combine.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let the hot chocolate simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. While the hot chocolate simmers, toast your marshmallows. Roast them over the campfire until golden and gooey, or use a stovetop flame or kitchen torch indoors.
  6. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream, toasted marshmallows, and any additional toppings like chocolate shavings or caramel drizzle.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor. Customize sweetness and toppings to suit your preferences. Toast marshmallows carefully to achieve a golden-brown color.
