Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) medium-bodied red wine (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Rioja)
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup orange liqueur (Triple sec or Grand Marnier)
  • 1 cup chilled club soda
  • 2 crisp and sweet apples, thinly sliced (Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 2 oranges, sliced into rounds
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 45 whole cloves
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples and oranges thoroughly. Slice the apples into thin wedges and the oranges into rounds. Remove the seeds from the pomegranate and set aside.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine 1 bottle (750 ml) of red wine, 1 cup of orange juice, 1 cup of apple cider, and ยฝ cup of orange liqueur. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Drop in 2 cinnamon sticks and 4-5 whole cloves to infuse warm, festive flavor.
  4. Carefully add the sliced apples, orange rounds, and pomegranate seeds to the pitcher. Stir gently to ensure the fruit is evenly distributed.
  5. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. When ready to serve, stir the sangria again and add 1 cup of chilled club soda for a bubbly finish. Serve over ice in glasses and garnish with a slice of orange or a cinnamon stick.
