A cozy and festive drink with warm spices, molasses, and frothy milk, perfect for chilly winter mornings or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) espresso or strong coffee
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk (whole milk, almond, oat, or coconut milk)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) molasses
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brew the coffee: Start by brewing your espresso or strong coffee. Youโ€™ll need about 1/2 cup (120 ml).
  2. Make the gingerbread syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 2 tablespoons (30 ml) molasses, 1 tablespoon (15 g) brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, and a pinch of ground nutmeg. Heat over low-medium heat until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened, about 2 minutes. Stir continuously to avoid burning.
  3. Warm the milk: In the same saucepan (or a separate one), heat 1 cup (240 ml) of milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling. Use a whisk or frother to create foam.
  4. Combine: Pour the brewed coffee into a mug, then stir in the gingerbread syrup. Slowly add the warm milk, holding back the foam with a spoon if desired. Top with the foam.
  5. Garnish: Add a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg on top for a festive finish.
