A quick and easy red wine sangria recipe blending fresh fruit with rich red wine for a perfect party drink thatโ€™s both refreshing and crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml / 25 fl oz) dry, fruity red wine (Tempranillo, Garnacha, or Merlot)
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 small lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mixed fresh or frozen berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1 medium apple, cored and diced
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml / 2 fl oz) brandy (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml / 4 fl oz) freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 23 tablespoons simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) club soda or sparkling water
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse all fruit well. Thinly slice the orange and lemon, dice the apple, and halve or quarter larger berries if needed (about 10 minutes).
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the sliced orange, lemon, diced apple, and berries. Add the cinnamon stick if using. Gently muddle the fruit with the back of a wooden spoon to release some juices without smashing the fruit.
  3. Pour in the entire bottle of red wine (750 ml / 25 fl oz). Add the brandy (60 ml / 2 fl oz) and orange juice (120 ml / 4 fl oz). Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of simple syrup, tasting as you go and adjusting sweetness as desired.
  5. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably 6 to 8 hours or overnight to let flavors meld and fruit soak up the wine.
  6. Just before serving, add 1 cup (240 ml) of club soda or sparkling water for fizz. Stir lightly to combine.
  7. Serve sangria into glasses filled with ice, ensuring each glass gets plenty of soaked fruit. Garnish with a fresh orange slice or sprig of mint if desired.

Notes

Use a fruity, medium-bodied red wine like Tempranillo, Garnacha, or Merlot. Avoid over-muddling fruit to prevent cloudiness. For a colder drink without dilution, freeze fruit pieces to use as ice cubes. Adjust sweetness with simple syrup or substitute with agave nectar for vegan option. Add club soda just before serving to keep fizz fresh. Store leftover sangria covered in fridge up to 2 days; remove fruit after 1 day to keep fresh longer.
