A cozy and comforting fall drink that blends the sweetness of maple syrup, the smokiness of bourbon, and the tangy bite of apple cider, infused with warm spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (1 liter) fresh, unfiltered apple cider
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup (240 ml) bourbon
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise (optional)
  • 1 orange, sliced into thin rounds

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, pour 4 cups (1 liter) of apple cider.
  2. Add 1/4 cup (60 ml) of pure maple syrup, 3 cinnamon sticks, 4 whole cloves, and, if using, 2 star anise.
  3. Slice one orange into thin rounds and add them to the saucepan.
  4. Heat the mixture on medium-low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Avoid boiling the cider.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1 cup (240 ml) of bourbon. Taste and adjustโ€”add more maple syrup if you prefer it sweeter or more bourbon for extra warmth.
  6. If desired, use a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and orange slices for a clearer cider.
  7. Pour the cider into mugs or heatproof glasses. Garnish each serving with a fresh cinnamon stick and a slice of orange.
