This crockpot mulled wine recipe is effortlessly easy, deliciously warming, and perfect for gatherings or quiet nights when you want to unwind.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle medium-bodied dry red wine (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Zinfandel)
  • 1 orange, sliced into thin rounds
  • 23 cinnamon sticks
  • 46 whole cloves
  • 23 star anise
  • 23 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
  • 34 whole cardamom pods (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brandy (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Slice one orange into thin rounds and set aside. Measure out your spices, sweetener, and brandy (if using).
  2. Pour the red wine into your crockpot. Add the sliced orange, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, cardamom pods (if using), and vanilla extract. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Add your honey or brown sugar to the mixture. Start with 2-3 tablespoons and adjust to taste later.
  4. Cover the crockpot and set it to low heat. Let the mulled wine warm gently for 2-3 hours. Stir occasionally.
  5. After about an hour, taste your mulled wine. Add more honey or sugar if needed. If you prefer stronger spices, consider adding another cinnamon stick or a few more cloves.
  6. If youโ€™re adding brandy, stir it in during the last 30 minutes of heating.
  7. Once warmed and fragrant, ladle the mulled wine into mugs. Garnish with an orange slice or cinnamon stick for a festive touch.

Notes

[‘Donโ€™t boil the wine to preserve its flavor and alcohol content.’, ‘Taste as you go to balance the sweetness.’, ‘Use whole spices to avoid cloudiness and grittiness.’, ‘Combine ingredients in the crockpot earlier in the day and set it to warm before serving.’, ‘Customize the flavor by adjusting the spices or adding extra ingredients like ginger or apple slices.’]
