A warm, spiced fall cocktail featuring whiskey, honey, lemon, and whole spices, perfect for cozy evenings or Thanksgiving gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 ounces (45 ml) whiskey (bourbon or Irish whiskey)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) honey
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh lemon juice (juice of 1/2 lemon)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) hot water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 orange slice (for garnish)
  • 1 star anise pod (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup (240 ml) of water, 1 cinnamon stick, and 3 cloves. Heat over medium heat until the water is hot but not boiling. Let the spices steep for about 5 minutes.
  2. While the water is heating, juice 1/2 a lemon to yield about 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of fresh lemon juice.
  3. In your mug, add 1 1/2 ounces (45 ml) of whiskey, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of honey, and the freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  4. Strain the spiced water into the mug to remove the cinnamon stick and cloves. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  5. Garnish with an orange slice, a star anise pod (if using), and the cinnamon stick for a festive touch. Serve immediately while hot.
