A smoky-sweet cocktail that combines the classic Old Fashioned with the irresistible flavors of maple syrup and crispy bacon.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz (60 ml) bourbon or rye whiskey
  • ยฝ oz (15 ml) maple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 12 slices thick-cut bacon
  • Orange peel
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Fry one or two slices of thick-cut bacon in a small skillet until crispy. Set aside on a paper towel to cool and drain excess grease.
  2. Optional: Infuse your whiskey with bacon by adding a few drops of bacon fat to the bottle, shaking, and refrigerating overnight. Strain before using.
  3. In a mixing glass, combine 2 oz (60 ml) of bourbon or rye whiskey, ยฝ oz (15 ml) of maple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. Add ice cubes and stir gently for about 20 seconds.
  4. Rub the edge of your glass with an orange peel for added aroma. Place a large ice cube in the glass.
  5. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass over the ice cube.
  6. Add a crispy slice of bacon and a curled orange peel to the glass for garnish.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, use smoked salt or liquid smoke instead of bacon. Adjust sweetness or smokiness to your liking. Experiment with garnishes like rosemary or smoked sea salt.
