A cozy and indulgent Irish coffee recipe featuring freshly brewed coffee, Irish whiskey, brown sugar, and a silky Baileys cream float. Perfect for chilly evenings and easy to prepare in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz freshly brewed hot coffee (medium to dark roast)
  • 1.5 oz Irish whiskey (e.g., Jameson)
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 1 oz Baileys Irish Cream
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream, lightly whipped (or coconut cream for dairy-free option)
  • Optional garnish: freshly grated nutmeg or cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Brew 6 oz (180 ml) of freshly brewed hot coffee and pour into a heatproof glass mug, leaving room at the top for the float.
  2. Stir in 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of packed brown sugar while the coffee is still hot to dissolve fully.
  3. Add 1.5 oz (45 ml) of Irish whiskey to the sweetened coffee and stir gently to combine.
  4. Lightly whip 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of heavy cream until thickened but still pourable.
  5. Slowly pour 1 oz (30 ml) of Baileys Irish Cream over the back of a spoon held just above the coffee surface to create a float.
  6. Carefully spoon the lightly whipped cream over the Baileys layer to float on top, keeping layers distinct.
  7. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of grated nutmeg or cocoa powder on top for garnish.
  8. Serve immediately and sip through the cream float for the best experience.

Notes

Use the back of a spoon to pour Baileys slowly for distinct layering. Do not overwhip the cream; aim for soft peaks or just thickened cream. Chilling the glass can help the cream float last longer. Fresh hot coffee is essential for dissolving sugar and layering. Avoid stirring after adding the cream float to maintain the layered effect.
