classic margarita on the rocks - featured image

A quick and easy 3-step recipe for a refreshing classic margarita on the rocks, balancing tart lime, smooth tequila, and a hint of sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) blanco tequila (100% agave)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 oz (30 ml) orange liqueur (Triple sec or Cointreau)
  • 0.5 oz (15 ml) simple syrup
  • Coarse salt for rimming the glass
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: lime wedge for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your rocks glass. Pour coarse salt onto a small plate, then dip the rim into the salt to coat evenly. Set aside.
  2. In a cocktail shaker or jar, combine 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur, and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Add plenty of ice to nearly fill the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled and slightly frosted on the outside.
  3. Fill the prepared rocks glass with fresh ice cubes. Strain the margarita mixture over the ice. Garnish with a lime wedge if desired. Sip and savor.

Notes

Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Shake for about 15 seconds to chill without diluting. Rim the glass with coarse salt for contrast. Adjust simple syrup or lime juice to taste. Store mixed ingredients in fridge up to 24 hours but add ice and salt rim just before serving.
