Ingredients

Scale
  • Red Layer: 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) cherry-flavored gelatin (like Jell-O)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or cold water for non-alcoholic version
  • White Layer: 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 can (13.5 oz / 400 ml) full-fat coconut milk (shake well before opening)
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or cold water for non-alcoholic version
  • Blue Layer: 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) blue raspberry-flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or cold water for non-alcoholic version

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: Dissolve cherry gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water. Stir until fully dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add 1/2 cup vodka or cold water and stir gently. Pour evenly into a rectangular tray. Refrigerate and chill for 30-45 minutes until firm but slightly tacky.
  2. Make the White Layer: Dissolve unflavored gelatin in 1 cup boiling water. Stir in sugar until dissolved. Slowly whisk in coconut milk and vodka or water. Cool to room temperature to prevent melting the red layer. Gently pour over the red layer. Chill for 30-45 minutes until set but slightly sticky.
  3. Prepare the Blue Layer: Dissolve blue raspberry gelatin in 1 cup boiling water. Stir until smooth, then add vodka or water. Cool to room temperature before pouring slowly over the white layer. Refrigerate and chill for at least 2 hours to fully set.
  4. Final Touches: Garnish the blue layer with fresh blueberries or edible stars if desired. Cut into small squares or rectangles to mimic the flagโ€™s stripes and star field.

Notes

Cool gelatin mixtures to room temperature before layering to prevent melting previous layers. Use the back of a spoon to gently pour layers for sharp lines. Chill layers until firm but slightly tacky for best adhesion. Use full-fat coconut milk for a creamy white layer. Avoid stirring cooled gelatin mixtures vigorously to prevent bubbles. Can substitute vodka with cold water or fruit juice for alcohol-free version. Agar-agar can be used for vegan adaptation but requires adjusted setting times.
