A cozy and easy homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe that balances rich espresso with fall spices and creamy pumpkin, perfect for chilly mornings or relaxing weekends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (60 ml / 2 fl oz) espresso or strong brewed coffee
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk of your choice (whole, almond, oat, soy, or coconut milk)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 grams) pumpkin puree (pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 tablespoons (25 grams) sugar or sweetener (brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon homemade pumpkin spice blend (1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger)
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Extra cinnamon or pumpkin spice for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso or strong coffee: Make about 2 shots (60 ml / 2 fl oz) of espresso or the equivalent strong coffee using your preferred method. This should take around 3-5 minutes.
  2. Prepare the pumpkin spice milk mixture: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup (240 ml) of milk, 2 tablespoons (30 grams) of pumpkin puree, 2 tablespoons (25 grams) of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon of your pumpkin spice blend. Whisk constantly until warm and slightly steaming but not boiling (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Froth the milk mixture: Remove from heat. Use a milk frother or whisk vigorously to create foam. If you donโ€™t have a frother, shake the mixture in a tightly sealed jar for 30 seconds.
  4. Combine and serve: Pour the brewed espresso into your mug, then slowly add the pumpkin-spiced milk, holding back the foam with a spoon. Top with the foam and, if desired, a swirl of whipped cream. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or pumpkin spice on top.

Notes

Use freshly ground spices for best aroma. Do not overheat milk to avoid curdling. Use pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling. For dairy-free or vegan options, substitute milk and sweetener accordingly. Froth milk by whisking or shaking if no frother is available. Store leftover pumpkin spice milk mixture in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
